What are you afraid of?

Every person fears something. At this point in history, we have all kinds of things causing us anxiety. I live near Bangkok and the city and its surrounding areas have been blanketed by heavy pollution, PM 2.5, for about two months. Many teenagers around the world have become climate change activists because they fear for the future of the planet. A few days ago, Thailand experienced its first mass shooting and so many wonder if this may lead to further incidences. I suppose the most urgent cause of fear at this point in time is a disease, Corona Virus or Covid 19. The speed and scale of this virus is frightening. The world, physically and otherwise, does not seem to be in good shape and things may simply get worse. Through the prophet Isaiah, God says, 'Do not fear for I am with you. When you walk through floods, they shall not drown you. When you walk through flames, they shall not burn you' (Isaiah 43). We can choose to drown ourselves in fear or to trust God's antidote to fear, his presence. Such trust makes life at this moment of history worth living.
