So many countries are now experiencing the second wave of Coronavirus Covid 19. This is sending shivers up and down the spine of governments and health authorities. We also see some curious responses. Some still attribute the virus to some conspiracy. Some still do not take it seriously enough. Some are over-reacting to the point of being unreasonable. Some seem almost resigned to the inevitable. The Christian life elicits similar responses It is difficult to predict how believers will react to the trials of faith. In Qohelet 10, Solomon points out the need to recognise the ironies of life which constitute wisdom. Even the normal activities of life carry life-threatening potentials. The wise accept these possibilities and rely on God to empower them through it all. Life is always bleak and beautiful at the same time. Embrace the beautiful and prepare for the bleak. With God beside us, shalom is the inevitable result.
