Champions!

A few days ago, Liverpool FC were finally crowned Premier League Champions of England after a 30 year hiatus. I still remember the last time LFC won the English football championship, 1990. During these 30 years, LFC fortunes were mixed; many memorable games and trophies but never the Premier League. Nevertheless, Liverpool is my chosen team and I followed their journey for 30 years, longing for the day they become champions again. Along the way I heard 'evil' voices saying, 'Give up. They will never be champions again. You should switch sides.' I remember the MU bragging rights of knocking LFC off their perch. I watched the rise of Chelsea and MC along the way. The near misses of 2014 and 2019 made the wait more agonising. At the beginning of this current season Liverpool blew away all other teams and with two wins to be crowned champions, Covid-19 hit resulting in 100 days of nail-biting delay. An ardent LFC fan, a friend of mine, even prophesied that Liverpool were destined not to win the League. Through all of that I waited and now the Championship is all the sweeter. When Jurgen Klop was appointed manager in 2015, he shared his motto of making believers again. Truth be told, many like me never lost faith, we simply waited. What a great metaphor of our spiritual journey. When Jesus promised to return, the early Christians were convinced it would be in their lifetime. Every generation for 2,000 years has felt the same. Yet he is delayed. There are those who have switched sides. There are those on the verge of losing hope. There are even those who prophesy his coming to motivate themselves. God's true people simply wait knowing he will come. Sometimes we may walk alone but we know we never truly walk alone. When When Jesus returns, it will all be so sweet. CHAMPIONS of life and faith will be inscribed on that trophy!
