Sorry!

I have a student who is very disruptive in class. Not in a bad way, but because he has such a short attention span and is perpetually restless. Whenever I attempt to get his attention or correct him, his response is singular--'Sorry, Sir!'. He says this with a 'sorry' look and uses it every single time. However, there is absolutely no corrective behaviour. A few seconds after saying 'Sorry' he is right back to his old habits. Many of us are this way with God. We have moments of remorse or regret but no actual corrective action. Saying 'Sorry' is really easy; being 'sorry' is much more difficulty. God told the prophet Samuel, at the time of David's anointing, he looks at the heart of a person not the outward form, including words. It is possible to say 'Sorry' and not be sorry at all. Hopefully the reverse is true when we approach God. We should be able to say 'Sorry'. More importantly, we should actually be sorry with the requisite response such thoughts elicit.
